{"id":101,"date":"1965-05-29T14:57:52","date_gmt":"1965-05-29T13:57:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.oldshebbearian\/?p=101"},"modified":"2015-08-31T15:18:23","modified_gmt":"2015-08-31T14:18:23","slug":"michael-odriscoll","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/oldshebbearian.co.uk\/?p=101","title":{"rendered":"Michael O&#8217;Driscoll"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Michael O\u2019Driscoll was a pupil from 1958-63, a member of Pollard House and still remembered with great affection by all those who knew him.<\/p>\n<p>A fine athlete and rugby player, a talented actor also, he gained entry to Dartmouth Royal Naval College after A-levels.<\/p>\n<p>By early 1965, he was serving as a Midshipman on HMS Invermoriston as part of a British operation against Indonesian infiltrators in Malaysian waters.<\/p>\n<p>The minesweeper was attacked off Singapore with mortar fire from an Indonesian gunboat. Michael was killed while manning a machine gun.<\/p>\n<p>Posthumously Michael O&#8217;Driscoll was Mentioned in Dispatches. The citation said that Midshipman O\u2019Driscoll showed<br \/>\n\u201coutstanding coolness and devotion to duty while in action\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Michael O&#8217;Driscoll is commemorated at the National Memorial Arboretum on the memorial wall for the Royal Navy, 1965.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Michael O\u2019Driscoll was a pupil from 1958-63, a member of Pollard House and still remembered with great affection by all those who knew him.
